Paragraph 5.5.1.2. now says "the manual opening and operating devices" instead of "the opening and operating devices". Under paragraph 5.5.1.2.2., their surfaces must terminate in rounded edges, the radii of curvature being not less than 5 mm.

Reasons given by the proposer: Experts from France, in informal document GRSP-65-03. GRSP adopted the proposal in GRSP-65-03 as reproduced in Annex VII to its report (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/65, para. 59).
The proposal aims to clarify rounded edges requirements for opening roof parts. Opening roof operation devices must fulfil the requirement of paragraph 5.5.1.2.2., with a radius above 5 mm. The other control levers (non structural parts) on the roof come under paragraph 5.3.4.1., with a radius above 3,2 mm. An electric opening roof operating device with other functions, for example a shadowing curtain control, must comply with both paragraphs.

Paragraph 5.5.1.2.2. was initially defined to specify adapted requirements for a manual opening roof crank handle. The specifications of paragraph 5.3.4.1. are more adapted to electronic control devices, for opening operation or other functions. By keeping only manual devices under paragraph 5.5.1.2., electrical devices with one or more functions come only under the paragraph 5.3. requirements. There is then no geometrical compatibility issue, and safety use is kept.
