End of approvals to this Regulation (para. 14.1.)
Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must cease to grant approvals to this Regulation. This applies as from 24 months after the official date of entry into force of UN Regulation No. [LSD]. A new footnote refers to the new UN Regulation on Light-Signalling Devices (LSD) (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2018/157).
Extensions and devices for replacement (paras. 14.2. to 14.4.)
Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must not refuse to grant extensions of approval to this and any previous series of amendments of this Regulation. Before, this text referred to extensions of approvals of this Regulation as amended by Supplement 3. Under paragraph 14.3., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must continue to grant approvals for devices on basis of this and any previous series of amendments. This applies provided that the devices are intended as replacements for fitting to vehicles in use. Under paragraph 14.4., they must continue to allow fitting or use of devices approved to any previous series of amendments. This applies on a vehicle in use, provided that the device is intended for replacement.
Old provisions on devices not equipped with filament lamps deleted
This series deletes the old provisions on devices not equipped with filament lamps, and on the fitting of these devices on a vehicle. These provisions applied from the date of entry into force of Supplement 4, with periods of 36, 48 and 60 months after that date. The new paragraphs 14.1. to 14.4. do not repeat this text.
Old provisions on Supplement 20 deleted
This series deletes the old provisions on Supplement 20 to the original series of amendments. Before, Contracting Parties had to grant approvals only if the direction indicator type met this Regulation as amended by Supplement 20. This applied as from 1 September 2018. The new paragraphs 14.1. to 14.4. do not repeat this text.

“The transitional provisions that were adoped to freeze Regulation No. 20 have been used as a model.”
A twenty-four month transitional period was proposed for all existing Regulations. This period would give the Contracting Parties, their competent authorities and the industry enough time for three tasks. One task is to finish or reorganize the current developments based on the existing text. The other tasks are to eliminate possible misunderstandings and errors in the new Regulation text, and to introduce modified markings according to the new Regulations.
