Earlier paragraphs 12.1. to 12.8. deleted

This series deletes the earlier paragraphs 12.1. to 12.8. Old paragraph 12.4. covered approvals granted earlier than 24 months after the date of entry into force of Supplement 2 to the 01 series. It said that these approvals remain valid indefinitely. It said the same for all extensions of approvals, including those to the preceding series of amendments granted subsequently. The new paragraphs 12.1. to 12.4. do not repeat this text. Old paragraphs 12.6. to 12.8. covered the fitting of rear marking plates on a vehicle.

As from the official date of entry into force of Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments, no Contracting Party applying this Regulation shall refuse to grant approvals under this Regulation as amended by Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments.
As from 24 months after the date of entry into force of Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation shall grant approvals only if the type of rear marking plates to be approved meets the requirements of this Regulation as amended by Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments.

“The transitional provisions that were adoped to freeze Regulation No. 20 have been used as a model.”
  • A twenty-four month transitional period was proposed for all existing Regulations. This period would give the Contracting Parties, their competent authorities and the industry enough time for three tasks. One task is to finish or reorganize the current developments based on the existing text. The other tasks are to eliminate possible misunderstandings and errors in the new Regulation text, and to introduce modified markings according to the new Regulations.
