End of approvals to this Regulation (para. 16.1.)
Under paragraph 16.1., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must cease to grant approvals to this Regulation. This applies as from 24 months after the official date of entry into force of UN Regulation No. [LSD]. Before, this paragraph referred to the official date of entry into force of Supplement 5 to the Regulation. A new footnote refers to the new UN Regulation on Light-Signalling Devices (LSD) (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2018/157).
Extensions and devices for replacement (paras. 16.2. to 16.4.)
Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must not refuse to grant extensions of approval to this and any previous series of amendments of this Regulation. Under paragraph 16.3., Contracting Parties must continue to grant approvals for devices on basis of this and any previous series of amendments. This applies provided that the devices are intended as replacements for fitting to vehicles in use. Before, this text referred to approvals for parking lamps on the basis of any previous Supplements to the Regulation. Under paragraph 16.4., fitting or use on a vehicle in use of a device approved to any previous series must continue to be allowed. This applies provided that the device is intended for replacement.
Earlier paragraphs deleted (old paras. 16.2. to 16.8. and 16.10. to 16.13.)
This series deletes old paragraphs 16.2. to 16.8. and 16.10. to 16.13. Old paragraph 16.5. said that approvals granted earlier than 12 months after the date of entry into force remain valid indefinitely. The new paragraphs 16.1. to 16.4. do not repeat this text. Old paragraph 16.3. covered extensions of approval to this Regulation in its original form and the subsequent supplements. Some old provisions used periods of 12, 36, 48 or 60 months after the date of entry into force of Supplement 5.

A twenty-four month transitional period was proposed for all existing Regulations. This period would give the Contracting Parties, their competent authorities and the industry enough time for three tasks. One task is to finish or reorganize the current developments based on the existing text. The other tasks are to eliminate possible misunderstandings and errors in the new Regulation text, and to introduce modified markings according to the new Regulations.
