UN Regulation No. 138 (ECE R138) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of Quiet Road Transport Vehicles with regard to their reduced audibility.

New Annex 5 gives special provisions for the testing of vehicles equipped with an ADS. The Annex says that it does not add nor remove any requirement.

During measurement in reverse, the maximum level requirement at the front plane for forward driving must be fulfilled in addition to the rear plane requirement.

The specifications now apply “in forward and reverse driving condition” for the mandatory speed range of greater than 0 km/h up to and inclusive 20 km/h.

For the measurement of vehicles in motion, the test track construction and surface must now meet the requirements of ISO 10844:2021 instead of ISO 10844:2014.
