Q1What changed5 changes

New paragraph 0.5.

New paragraph 0.5. says that Supplement 1 is introduced to take vehicles of categories X and Y into account. It also takes into account vehicles which can be operated either by a driver or an ADS.

Supplement 1 to the original version of this Regulation is introduced to take vehicles of categories X and Y into account, and vehicles which can be operated either by a driver or an ADS.

Data elements excluded from the scope (para. 1.3.)

Paragraph 1.3. lists the data elements that are excluded from the scope. The list now says “information, about any user”. Before, it said “information on the driver”. The other excluded data elements do not change: VIN, associated vehicle details, location/positioning data, and date and time of an event.

The following data elements are excluded from the scope: Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), associated vehicle details, location/positioning data, information on the driver, about any user, and date and time of an event.

Mounting position of EDR devices (para. 5.4.)

In paragraph 5.4., the text on the mounting of EDR device(s) now says “vehicle cab, occupant compartment”. Before, it said “vehicle cab/passenger compartment”. The sentence on positions outside the vehicle cab now says “vehicle cab or occupant compartment” in the same way. The demonstration to the technical service for these positions does not change.

EDR device(s) shall be mounted in the vehicle cab/passenger cab, occupant compartment , or in a position of sufficient structural integrity to protect against physical damage (mechanical integrity) that would prevent the retrieval of data at least in front and side impacts of a severity level corresponding to the mechanical shock requirements above. For positions outside the vehicle cab/passenger cab or occupant compartment, the sufficient structural integrity shall be demonstrated to the technical service together with appropriate documentation (e.g. calculations or simulations).

Frontal airbag system status: “suppressed (occupant)” (Annex 4, Table 1)

In Annex 4, Table 1, the row “Frontal Airbag system status” now gives “Faulted, suppressed (occupant), deployed, not deployed” in the column “Resolution”. Before, it said “suppressed (passenger)”.

Faulted, suppressed (passengeroccupant), deployed, not deployed

R.E.3 reference and web address (para. 1.1., footnote *)

Footnote * to paragraph 1.1. now refers to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3), document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.8. Before, it referred to Section 2 of R.E.3, document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.7. The footnote also gives a new web address: https://unece.org/transport/vehicle-regulations/wp29/resolutions.
