Vehicles of category Y and of category X without a driver’s seat excluded (para. 1.3.)

This UN Regulation does not apply to vehicles of category Y and to vehicles of category X without a driver’s seat. Before this supplement, paragraph 1.3. said that this Regulation does not apply to vehicles not designed to be driven by a human.

FVA exception while an ADS feature is active (para. 5.1.1.)

Unless the vehicle is parked or an ADS feature is active, FVA must be driving or operation related (or both) and meet paragraph 5.1.2. onward. In the latter case, displayed non-driving related or operation related information or both must disappear within 500ms upon initiation of a transition demand, if applicable. Before, the second case was when the vehicle is performing the Dynamic Driving Task (DDT), for example as described in UN Regulation No. 157. The 500ms rule applied in that case, without the words “if applicable”.

FVA shall be driving related or operation related or both, and comply with the requirements of paragraph 5.1.2. onward, except when the vehicle is parked or performing the Dynamic Driving Task (DDT) (e.g. as described in UN Regulation No. 157). while an ADS feature is active. In the latter case, if non-driving related or operation related information or both is displayed, it shall disappear within 500ms upon initiation of a transition demand, if applicable.

References to R.E.3 in footnotes

Four footnotes that refer to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3) now cite document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.8 instead of Rev.7. One of them says where the distinguishing numbers of the Contracting Parties to the 1958 Agreement are reproduced (Annex 3 to R.E.3). The other three footnotes start with “As defined in” and no longer refer to “para. 2.” of that document.

  • This UN Regulation does not apply to vehicles of category X with manual driving mode operated on-board the vehicle not using a driver’s seat. This is because a Field of Vision Assistant (FVA) system is not possible for these vehicles. This is based upon the current state of technology used for these systems.

Component supplier

  • Make sure your FVA logic uses “while an ADS feature is active” as the paragraph 5.1.1. exception case.

Technical service / Approval authority

  • Be ready to assess the paragraph 5.1.1. exception for FVA while an ADS feature is active.
