    Source
“The expert from Germany introduced GRSP-64-21, to clarify the possibility of installing side facing seats in certain bus categories (M2 and M3 of Classes A and I).”
  • Proposer's reason (informal document GRSP-64-21)

Vehicles of Class I and A were and still are commonly provided with side-facing seats according to paragraph 5.3 of UN Regulation No. 17. In buses, UN Regulation No. 17 applies only to the seats that UN Regulation No. 80 does not cover.

    Sources (2)
“it was and still is common practise to provide vehicles of Class I and A with side facing seats according to UN-Regulation No. 17 Par. 5.3”
    GRSP-64-21II. Justification
“as UN-Regulation No. 17 is applied solely to those seats in buses which are not covered by UN-Regulation No. 80.”

  • Proposer's reason (informal document GRSP-64-21)

It was never intended to prohibit side-facing seats in Class I and A. Doubts have appeared whether the wording would prohibit the installation. The proposal aims at clarifying the wording, to make sure that UN Regulation No. 17 can be applied for European Whole Type Approval.
