Q1What changed106 changes
Test track surface to ISO 10844:2014 (Annex 3, para. 2.1.1.)
The surface of the test track must conform to ISO 10844:2014. Before this supplement, it had to conform to the requirements of Annex 5 or be in accordance to ISO 10844:2014. After the end of the period in paragraph 10.8., only ISO 10844:2014 was to be used as reference.
Type approvals and extensions to a preceding series (paras. 10.3. and 10.4.)
Paragraph 10.3. now says that, notwithstanding the transitional provisions above, Contracting Parties may grant type approvals according to any preceding series of amendments. New paragraph 10.4. says that they must continue to grant extensions of existing approvals to any preceding series of amendments. In both paragraphs, the specification of the test track may conform to ISO 10844:2014. Before this supplement, paragraph 10.3. said that Contracting Parties must not refuse extensions of type approvals for existing types granted according to the preceding series.
Paragraphs 10.7. and 10.8. deleted, paragraphs 10.4. to 10.6. renumbered
Former paragraphs 10.7. and 10.8. on Supplement 1 to the 02 series of amendments are deleted. Paragraph 10.7. applied as from the official date of entry into force of Supplement 1. It said that no Contracting Party may refuse to grant or refuse to accept type approval according to Supplement 1. Paragraph 10.8. applied as from 60 months after the date of entry into force of Supplement 1. From then, Contracting Parties had to grant type approvals only if the vehicle type met the requirements as amended by Supplement 1. Former paragraphs 10.4. to 10.6. are now paragraphs 10.5. to 10.7.
New title and Figure 1 (Annex 5)
The title of Annex 5 is now “Test track layout” instead of “Test track specifications”. The caption of Figure 1 is now “Test track layout with dimensions in meters”, and the figure is changed. A new key names the minimum area covered with test road surface, that is the test area, and the microphone positions (height 1,2m). A new line reads “Source: ISO 10844:1994, with modifications.”
Test track specifications deleted (Annex 5, paras. 1. to 6.2.)
Annex 5 no longer has paragraphs 1. to 6.2. These paragraphs gave the required characteristics of the surface, the test surface design and the test method. They also gave the stability in time and maintenance, and the documentation of the test surface and of tests performed on it. Figure 2, Table 1 and two footnotes are also deleted. One footnote referred to ISO 10844:1994. The other said that the specifications for the test site in this annex were valid until the end of the period in paragraph 10.8.

- Working party
- GRBP, 74th session (September 2021)
Reasons
The proposal aims to align the 02 series of amendments with ISO 10844:2014. It removes the provisions carried over from ISO 10844:1994, but keeps Figure 1 of Annex 5 to explain the test track layout. It also aims to apply to this Regulation the same changes that GRBP adopted for UN Regulation No. 41 at its seventy-second session.

As from 20 January 2021, the specifications for the test site in Annex 5 will not be valid any more. The provisions of ISO 10844:2014 will replace them. This date is 60 months after the entry into force of Supplement 1 to the 02 series of amendments, according to paragraph 10.8.
