UN R101 Supplement 10 (01 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 101 (ECE R101) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of passenger cars powered by an internal combustion engine only, or powered by a hybrid electric power train with regard to the measurement of the emission of carbon dioxide and fuel consumption and/or the measurement of electric energy consumption and electric range, and of categories M1 and N1 vehicles powered by an electric power train only with regard to the measurement of electric energy consumption and electric range.
UN R101 — Supplement 10 to the 01 series of amendments
Supplement 9 → 10
- What changed
- Annex 7, Appendix 2 changes when the manufacturer may choose its road load power calculation method. The new condition is that the vehicle road load has been determined according to WLTP procedures as defined in UN GTR No. 15.
- Input (b) of paragraph 2.1. now refers to the weighted-mean equation in paragraph 3.2.3.2.2.2.3. of Annex 7 to UN GTR No. 15, not Annex 4.
- In paragraph 2.2.4.(a)(iv), the formula for the effect of different tyre tread depth now subtracts TTD. Before, it multiplied by TTD.
- Why
- Vehicles in general are not approved according to UN GTR No. 15, so the text of UN Regulation No. 83 is recommended for paragraph 1.
- The reference to Annex 4 instead of Annex 7 of UN GTR No. 15 was wrong.
- When the methodology was copied from the EU regulation, a “.” was wrongly put in the formula instead of a “-”.
Q1What changed5 changes
When the road load power calculation method may be used (Annex 7, Appendix 2, para. 1.)
The manufacturer may choose the road load power calculation method of this appendix. The condition is now that the vehicle road load has been determined according to WLTP procedures as defined in UN GTR No. 15. Before this supplement, the condition was “when vehicle’s emissions are approved using UN GTR No. 15 procedure”.
Input parameters for the WLTP road load calculation (Annex 7, Appendix 2, para. 2.1.)
For tyres of different energy efficiency classes on the front and rear axles, input (b) uses a weighted mean. Input (b) now refers to the equation in paragraph 3.2.3.2.2.2.3. of Annex 7 to UN GTR No. 15 for this weighted mean. Before, the text referred to paragraph 3.2.3.2.2.2.3. of UN GTR No. 15 Annex 4. Inputs (a) and (b) now end with a semicolon, and input (c) now ends with a full stop.
Effect of different tyre tread depth (Annex 7, Appendix 2, para. 2.2.4.)
In paragraph 2.2.4.(a)(iv), the formula for the effect of different tyre tread depth is now F0n = F0n³ − TTD. Before, the formula was F0n = F0n³ · TTD.
Q2Why it changed
- Proposed by
- Expert from the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA)
- Working party
- GRPE, 82nd session (January 2021)
Reasons
The change harmonizes paragraph 1. of Annex 7, Appendix 2 with UN Regulation No. 83 (Annex 4a, Appendix 7b, paragraph 1.). Vehicles in general are not approved according to UN GTR No. 15. For this reason, the text of UN Regulation No. 83 is recommended.

“Vehicles in general are not approved according to UN GTR No. 15, therefore the text phrase of UN Regulation No. 83 is recommended.”
The reference to Annex 4 of UN GTR No. 15 in Annex 7, Appendix 2, paragraph 2.1.(b) was wrong. The correct reference is to Annex 7 of UN GTR No. 15.

When the methodology was copied from the EU regulation, a “.” was wrongly put in the formula instead of a “-”. The EU Joint Research Center, which is at the origin of the methodology, reviewed this correction.

Q3Who is affected
Vehicle manufacturer
- To choose the Annex 7 alternative procedure, make sure WLTP procedures (UN GTR No. 15) determined the vehicle road load.
- If you use the Annex 7 alternative procedure, apply the tyre tread depth formula F0n = F0n³ − TTD.
Component supplier
- No direct action for this role.
Technical service / Approval authority
- For the Annex 7 alternative procedure, check that WLTP procedures (UN GTR No. 15) determined the vehicle road load.
- In the Annex 7 alternative procedure, check that F0n results use the tyre tread depth formula F0n = F0n³ − TTD.
