Supplement 10 → 11
- What changed
- The Annex 7 method now measures the electric energy consumption and the pure electric range of vehicles powered by an electric power train only.
- A new shortened test procedure applies if the estimated pure electric range is at least the length of 6 NEDC test cycles.
- As an alternative at the choice of the manufacturer, conformity of production may confirm electric energy consumption over the first two NEDC test cycles.
- Why
- UN GTR No. 15 introduced a shortened Type 1 test procedure and a new conformity of production test procedure for pure electric vehicles.
- They were introduced to reduce the testing time in the lab and to install robust procedures for electric energy consumption and range.
- An option to use the UN Regulation No. 83 road load procedures for PEVs would reduce approval burden, as the two processes have diverged.
Q1What changed267 changes
Range measurement in Annex 7 and Annex 9 (paras. 2.18. and 5.3.1. to 5.3.3.)
Paragraph 2.18. now refers to the procedure in Annex 7 and Annex 9 for the electric range, instead of Annex 9. The Technical Service in charge of the tests now measures electric energy consumption and electric range by the Annex 7 method (para. 5.3.1.). Paragraph 5.3.2. loses its first subparagraph, which gave the measurement of the electric range by the Annex 9 method. Its remaining text now says “pure electric range De” instead of “electric range”. The Annex 9 title and paragraph 1. no longer name vehicles powered by an electric power train only. Annex 9 paragraphs 4.1.1.1. and 4.2.1. are now “(Reserved)”, and their subparagraphs for pure electric vehicles are deleted.
Choice of test procedure and general test steps (Annex 7, paras. 1. and 5.2.)
Under paragraph 1.1., the test procedure is selected in accordance with the estimated pure electric range of the test vehicle. If that range is less than the length of 6 NEDC test cycles, the consecutive cycle test procedure applies; otherwise, the shortened test procedure applies. The manufacturer must give evidence to the approval authority concerning the estimated pure electric range before the test. The pure electric range determined by the applied test procedure must confirm that the correct test procedure was applied. Paragraph 5.2. now has five steps: discharge, normal charge, the selected test procedure, a second normal charge, and determination of energy consumption and range. Before, the four steps were initial charge, two applications of the cycle, charging, and calculation of the electric energy consumption.
Consecutive cycle and shortened test procedures (Annex 7, paras. 2. to 4. and 5.2.3.)
Paragraph 2. now has the title “NEDC test cycle” instead of “Test sequence”. In the consecutive cycle test procedure, consecutive NEDC test cycles are driven until the break-off criterion of paragraph 5.2.3.1.3. is reached. New paragraph 3. defines the shortened NEDC test sequence: two dynamic NEDC segments (DS1 and DS2) with two constant speed segments (CSSM and CSSE). The minimum speed of the constant speed segments is 100 km/h; a vehicle with a lower maximum speed uses its maximum speed. In the shortened procedure, the break-off criterion is reached when the vehicle exceeds the paragraph 4.2. tolerance for 4 consecutive seconds or more in CSSE. Before, the cycle was run twice on a chassis dynamometer (test distance: 22 km, test duration: 40 minutes).
Vehicle condition, battery discharge and charge (Annex 7, paras. 5.1. to 5.2.4.)
Paragraph 5.1.1.6. replaces “during the seven days before the test” with “or one full charge distance, whichever is longer, before the test”. In Annex 9, paragraph 3.1.6., “or one full charge distances, whichever is longer” replaces “during the seven days before the test”. Discharge now follows the manufacturer’s recommendation, and the manufacturer must guarantee that the REESS is as fully depleted as is possible by the discharge procedure. Under paragraph 5.2.2., normal charging is the transfer of electricity to an electrified vehicle with a power of at most 22 kW. Under paragraph 5.2.4., the vehicle must be connected to the mains within the 30 minutes after the break-off criterion of paragraph 5.2.3.1.3. or 5.2.3.2.3. The determination of recharged electric energy must stop if the end of charge criterion of paragraph 5.2.2.2. is reached.
REESS current and voltage measurement and calculation of results (Annex 7, paras. 1.2. and 5.2.5., Appendix 3)
The table in paragraph 1.2. adds rows for electric current and electric voltage. New paragraph 5.2.5.1. calculates the electric energy consumption from the REESS current and voltage determined according to Appendix 3. The pure electric range De is the usable REESS energy divided by the electric energy consumption ECDC, for both test procedures (para. 5.2.5.2.). Under paragraph 5.2.5.3., the electric energy consumption C is the recharged electric energy from the mains divided by the non-rounded pure electric range. Before, the electric energy consumption c was E divided by the distance Dtest covered during the test. New Appendix 3 gives the method and required instrumentation to determine the REESS current and the REESS voltage of PEVs.
Alternative conformity of production check of electric energy consumption (paras. 9.4.1.5. and 9.4.3.)
As an alternative at the choice of the manufacturer, paragraph 9.4.1.5. now lets the electric energy consumption be confirmed by the paragraph 9.4.3. test. In this procedure, the break-off criterion for the conformity of production procedure is reached with the first two NEDC test cycles finished (para. 9.4.3.1.). During these two cycles, the DC energy from the REESS(s) is measured by the Appendix 3 method and divided by the driven distance. This value is compared to the value of paragraph 9.4.3.5., and conformity is checked with the statistical procedures of Section 9.3. The value of paragraph 9.4.3.5. is the type-approval electric energy consumption of the first two NEDC test cycles, multiplied by the adjustment factor AFEC.
Road load option from UN Regulation No. 83 (Annex 7, Appendix 1)
Annex 7, Appendix 1 now has an alternative at the choice of the manufacturer for the road load. The road load may be determined according to the process described in Appendix 7 to Annex 4a of UN Regulation No. 83. The version to use is the latest version of UN Regulation No. 83 at the time of approval.
