UN R125 Supplement 3 (02 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 125 (ECE R125) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of motor vehicles with regard to the forward field of vision of the motor vehicle driver.
UN R125 — Supplement 3 to the 02 series of amendments
Supplement 2 → 3
- What changed
- The switch-off provision of paragraph 5.1.3.5.5. now does not apply when the vehicle is in a backing event as defined in UN Regulation No. 158.
- New paragraph 5.1.3.7. says that information given through the FVA system must not replace information to the driver mandated by any UN Regulations.
- Annex 5 has new examples, such as “Transition demand/ Hands-off warning”.
- Why
- The proposal clarifies the switch off provisions of an FVA system in case of a backing event.
- The FVA switch off function is often achieved through the main menu on the centre screen of the vehicle. Camera/monitor systems according to UN Regulation No. 158 use this centre screen at the same time.
- During a backing event, this monitor function has a higher priority. FVA experts do not see a safety risk if the FVA system cannot be immediately switched off during a backing event.
Q1What changed3 changes
Switching off the FVA in a backing event (para. 5.1.3.5.5.)
Paragraph 5.1.3.5.5. says that it must be possible for the driver to switch off the FVA by a deliberate action. This action consists of at least one manual option with maximum of 2 consecutive steps. A new sentence says that this provision does not apply when the vehicle is in a backing event as defined in UN Regulation No. 158. Before this supplement, paragraph 5.1.3.5.5. did not have this sentence.
Information to the driver mandated by UN Regulations (new para. 5.1.3.7.)
New paragraph 5.1.3.7. says that information given through the FVA system must not replace information to the driver mandated by any UN Regulations. A duplication of such mandatory information through the FVA system is possible.
New examples in Annex 5
The examples in Annex 5 have a new entry, “Warnings and information to the driver that require drivers immediate action”. New examples are “Transition demand/ Hands-off warning” and “Requests to stop the vehicle immediately due to safety relevant failures of the vehicle or its systems”. Another new example is “Requests to switch off systems immediately due to safety relevant failures”. The example “Abrupt braking situations” now reads “Abrupt braking situations or other emergency cases”. The example “Distance to vehicle in front” now reads “Distance to vehicle in front/ to side / to rear”. The entry “Information to maintain the distances to surrounding road user and infrastructure” now goes on “as well as information on the infrastructure”.
