UN R125 — 03 series of amendments

Changes from 02 series of amendments (supplement 3)

Adopted at the WP.29 194th sessionEntry into force 2025-06-12
What changed
  • Under paragraph 5.1.3.5., information of a Field of Vision Assistant that meets UN Regulation [XXX] may overlay the transparent field of vision of paragraph 5.1.1. Paragraphs 5.1.3.5.1. to 5.1.3.7. and Annex 5 are deleted.
  • From 1 September 2026, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation are not obliged to accept approvals to the preceding series first issued after 1 September 2026. Under paragraph 12.16., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must continue to accept preceding-series approvals for vehicle types not equipped with FVA.
  • Paragraphs 2.3., 2.5. to 2.7., 2.9. and 2.10. and Annex 3, footnote 1, now refer to Addendum 6 of Mutual Resolution No. 1 (M.R.1).
Why
  • IWG-FVA developed a new UN Regulation on Field of Vision Assistants for all vehicle categories M and N. It replaces the specific FVA requirements that the 02 series of amendments introduced for M1 and N1 vehicles.
  • The FVA provisions in the new UN Regulation are more specific and detailed, so existing vehicle types need a transitional period.
  • The specifications of the 3-D “H”-point machine were updated and moved from R.E.3 to M.R.1.

Field of Vision Assistant information (paras 5.1.3.5. to 5.1.3.7.)

Under paragraph 5.1.3.5., information of a Field of Vision Assistant that meets UN Regulation [XXX] may overlay the transparent field of vision of paragraph 5.1.1. Before, paragraphs 5.1.3.5.1. to 5.1.3.5.5. and 5.1.3.6. applied to FVA information overlaid in the transparent field of vision and above and beside area S. Paragraphs 5.1.3.5.1. to 5.1.3.7. and the text between them are deleted. The deleted paragraphs covered the light intensity of the FVA, its switch-off by the driver and information to the driver mandated by any UN Regulations.

The transparent field of vision as defined in paragraph 5.1.1. may be overlaid by information of a Field of Vision Assistant. The provisions , meeting the requirements of paragraph 5.1.3.5.1. to 5.1.3.5.5. and of paragraph 5.1.3.6. are applying to information from an FVA if overlaid in the transparent field of vision and above and on the sides of area S in the transparent area.UN Regulation [XXX].
The information displayed by the FVA may be non-driving related, hence different to that listed in paragraph 5.1.3.5.1. and not submitted to the provisions of paragraph 5.1.3.5.1. to 5.1.3.5.5., as long as the parking gear/brake has not been released for the first time after the activation of the vehicle master control switch.

A new sentence in paragraph 5.1.3.4. says that, with regard to FVA, if applicable, potential obstructions in area “S” from opaque pixels must be considered. Opaque pixels are as defined in paragraph 2.19. of UN Regulation [XXX], 00 series of amendments. The earlier text of the paragraph, with the 20 per cent limit for area “S”, does not change.

An obstruction between a plane through V2, and declined at least 1° below the horizontal and a plane through V2 and declined 4° below the horizontal will be tolerated if the conical projection of this obstruction, starting from V2, on an area "S" as defined in paragraph 5.1.3.4.1. below does not exceed 20 per cent of this area. With regard to FVA, if applicable, potential obstructions in area "S" from opaque pixels as defined in paragraph 2.19. of UN Regulation [XXX], 00 series of amendments, shall be considered.

Transitional provisions for the 03 series of amendments (paras 12.12. to 12.18.)
