Q1What changed16 changes
Introduction and scope for vehicles of categories X and Y (section 0., paras. 1.1. and 1.2.)
New section 0. says that the Regulation is amended to account for vehicles of category X. New paragraph 1.2. says that the Regulation does not apply to vehicles of category Y. In paragraph 1.1., the scope for vehicles of categories M and N does not change. Without a driver or manual driving controls, provisions related to them must not be taken into account, unless this amendment already covers them. For vehicles with an ADS other than category X, no special provisions or exemptions apply in the manual driving mode. In a mode where an ADS feature is active, the relevant ADS requirements apply.
Front passenger seat in vehicles of category X (para. 2.6.1.)
Paragraph 2.6.1. defines a front passenger seat by the vertical transverse plane through the driver's R point. A new sentence says that, for vehicles of category X, the R point of the most forward passenger seat must be used instead. The rest of the definition does not change.
Reference plane P for the upper belt anchorages (paras. 5.1.6., 5.1.6.2.1. and 5.1.6.2.2.)
For vehicles other than category X, paragraph 5.1.6. now says that the procedure of paragraphs 5.1.6.1. to 5.1.6.2.3 must be used, as applicable. For vehicles of category X, the procedure of paragraph 5.1.6.2.3 must be used for all seats. Paragraph 5.1.6.2.3. lets the manufacturer specify the plane P for the rear outboard seating position, within limits for distance A. Paragraphs 5.1.6.2.1. and 5.1.6.2.2. now say “if any” after the references to the driver's seat and to the driver.
Occupants with a steering assembly in front (para. 5.3.5.4.)
Paragraphs 5.3.5.1. to 5.3.5.3. now do not apply in the case of an occupant with a steering assembly in front. Before this supplement, they did not apply to a driver's seat.
New R.E.3 references in footnotes 1 and 2
Footnote 1 of sections 0. and 1. now refers to R.E.3, document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.8, para. 2, for the definitions. Footnote 2 of paragraph 4.4.1. now refers to R.E.3, document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.8, Annex 3, for the distinguishing numbers of the Contracting Parties. Before, both footnotes referred to Rev.7.
