Q1What changed7 changes
Test track surface to ISO 10844:2021 (Annex 3, para. 2.1.1.)
The surface of the test track must conform to ISO 10844:2021. Before this supplement, it had to conform to ISO 10844:2014.
Transition from ISO 10844:2014 to ISO 10844:2021 (paras. 11.3., 11.4. and 11.9.)
New paragraph 11.9. accepts ISO 10844:2021 for all approvals from the entry into force of Supplement 3. Paragraph 11.9. also accepts ISO 10844:2014 for all approvals until five years from that date. Paragraphs 11.3. and 11.4. no longer say that the test track may conform to ISO 10844:2014.
Average of 2 runs in the communication form (Annex 1, item 16.2.)
Item 16.2. now gives the vehicle speed at the start of the acceleration period as the average of 2 runs. Before this supplement, it was the average of 3 runs.
ASEP table and reference point (Annex 1, item 18., and Annex 6, para. 3.1.)
The ASEP table in Annex 1 no longer has the column “Reference Point (ii)”. The ASEP table of item 18. now gives the vehicle speeds and engine speeds as the average of 2 runs instead of 3. Annex 6, paragraph 3.1., now says “other than the reference point” instead of “other than the reference points”.

- Working party
- GRBP, 81st session (February 2025)
Reasons
The amendment allows the use of the latest state-of-the-art ISO 10844 test track.
Source
“to allow using the latest state-of-the-art ISO 10844 test track”
ISO updated the ISO 10844 standard to reduce the variability from one test track to another. This variability comes from different interpretations and implementations of the technical requirements.

“The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has updated the ISO 10844 standard to reduce track-to-track variability caused by different interpretations and implementations of the technical requirements.”
The proposal uses the same approach as earlier amendments to UN Regulations Nos. 51, 41 and 63.

“The proposal follows the same approach as in ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRBP/2022/13 which was adopted as Supplement 8 to UN Regulation No. 51”
“as well as GRBP-79-14 and GRBP-79-16 which were adopted as Supplements to respectively UN Regulation No. 41 and UN Regulation No. 63 at the seventy-nineth session of GRBP”
Annex 1 gave the average of 3 runs. But Annex 3, paragraphs 3.1.3. and 3.1.4., and the ASEP tests in Annex 6 use the average of 2 runs.
Sources (2)
“Annex 1, point 16.2. refers to the average of 3 runs, while Annex 3, paragraphs 3.1.3. and 3.1.4. mention the average of 2 runs”
“The table in point 18 of Annex 1 refers to the average of 3 runs, while the ASEP reference and ASEP tests are based on the average of 2 runs”
The table in item 18 of Annex 1 referred to 2 reference points, and Annex 6, paragraph 3.1., to multiple reference tests. But Annex 6, paragraph 3.3.1., asks for only one ASEP reference test.
Sources (2)
“The table in point 18 of Annex 1 refers to 2 reference points, and paragraph 3.1. of Annex 6 refers to multiple reference tests”
“from Annex 6, paragraph 3.3.1. only one additional sound emission provisions (ASEP) reference test is requested”
