UN R13H — Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments

Supplement 1 → 2

Adopted at the WP.29 183rd sessionEntry into force 2021-09-30
What changed
  • After a battery recharge or replacement, vehicles with Category B regenerative braking now need further reconditioning of the linings to complete the recovery procedure.
  • This supplement removes the sentence “The procedures may be conducted without a regenerative braking component.”
Why
  • The expert from France proposed to clarify paragraph 1.5.3.1. for batteries recharged or replaced between the hot performance and recovery procedures.
  • In that case, the linings temperature may no longer be at the temperature before the recovery procedure.

Q1What changed2 changes

Battery recharge or replacement in the recovery procedure (Annex 3, para. 1.5.3.1.)

As before, vehicles equipped with an electrical regenerative braking system of Category B may have their batteries recharged or replaced by a charged set. In this case, further reconditioning of the linings must now be done to complete the recovery procedure. The text now writes “Category B” instead of “category B” and “recharged” instead of “re-charged”. This supplement also removes the sentence “The procedures may be conducted without a regenerative braking component.”

Vehicles equipped with an electrical regenerative braking system of category Category B may have their batteries re-charged recharged or replaced by a charged set. In this case, further reconditioning of the linings shall be performed in order to complete the recovery procedure.
The procedures may be conducted without a regenerative braking component.

Q2Why it changed

Proposed by
Expert from France
Working party
GRVA, 7th session (September 2020)

Reasons

  • The proposal aimed to clarify Annex 3, paragraph 1.5.3.1., for batteries recharged or replaced with a charged set between the hot performance and recovery procedures. In this case, the linings temperature may no longer be at the temperature before the recovery procedure.

    Sources (2)
“It is aimed at clarifying the provisions in Annex 3, para. 1.5.3.1., in case the batteries have been recharged or replaced with a charged set between the hot performance and recovery procedure”
“in case the batteries have been recharged or replaced with a charged set between the hot performance and recovery procedures, the linings temperature may no longer be at the temperature prior to the recovery procedure”
  • The proposal aimed to make clear that, in this case, further reconditioning of the linings (a new warm-up procedure) is necessary. The aim was to continue the recovery protocol in representative conditions, with the appropriate temperature.
