UN R13H — Supplement 4 to the 01 series of amendments

Supplement 3 → 4

Adopted at the WP.29 187th sessionEntry into force 2023-01-04
What changed
  • Paragraph 5.2.22.2. gives requirements for vehicles with automatically commanded braking and/or regenerative braking which produce a retarding force.
  • The signal may now also be suppressed when the deceleration demand falls below 1.3 m/s² or the value which generated the signal, whichever is lower.
  • Suppression of the signal at standstill stays allowed.
Why
  • The industry received different interpretations from Authorities and Technical Services on the conditions under which the signal is still to be generated.
  • The amendment seeks clarification on this issue.

Q1What changed2 changes

When the signal may be suppressed (para. 5.2.22.2.)

Paragraph 5.2.22.2. gives requirements for vehicles equipped with automatically commanded braking and/or regenerative braking which produce a retarding force. Once generated, the signal must be kept as long as a deceleration demand persists. The signal may now also be suppressed when the deceleration demand falls below 1.3 m/s² or the value which generated the signal, whichever is lower. Suppression of the signal at standstill stays allowed.

Once generated , the signal shall be kept as long as a deceleration demand persists. However, the signal may be suppressed at standstill or when the deceleration demand falls below 1.3 m/s² or that value which generated the signal, whichever is lower.
Requirem2ents Requirements for vehicles equipped with automatically commanded braking and/or regenerative braking which produce a retarding force (e.g. upon release of the accelerator control).

“The industry received different interpretation from Authorities and Technical Services on how the requirements of paragraph 5.2.22.2. are to be understood with regard to the conditions under which the signal is still to be generated.”
  • The amendment seeks clarification on this issue. It aims at clarifying paragraph 5.2.22.2. This paragraph deals with deceleration thresholds that generate the braking light signal in the case of regenerative braking and/or automatically commanded braking.
