UN R30 Supplement 26 (02 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 30 (ECE R30) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of pneumatic tyres for motor vehicles and their trailers.
UN R30 — Supplement 26 to the 02 series of amendments
Supplement 25 → 26
- What changed
- The scope (paragraph 1.) has a new footnote. It says that the Regulation defines requirements for tyres as a component and does not limit their installation on any categories of vehicles.
- Annex 6, paragraph 4. no longer says that the overall width is measured “by calliper”.
- For tyres with the “tyre to rim fitment configuration” symbol “A” or “U”, paragraph 6.1.4.2.4. now says “the maximum overall width”.
- Why
- The proposal gives the full scope text again, with a footnote that was left out by mistake in Supplement 18.
- The words “by calliper” fix a technical limitation. The proposal removes them to allow other measurement solutions.
- The wording of paragraph 6.1.4.2.4. is aligned with UN Regulation No. 54.
Q1What changed8 changes
New footnote on tyres as a component (para. 1.)
The scope (paragraph 1.) has a new footnote 2. It says that this Regulation defines requirements for tyres as a component. It also says that the Regulation does not limit their installation on any categories of vehicles.
Reference to R.E.3 and wording in the scope (paras. 1. and 1.1.)
Footnote 1 to paragraph 1. now refers to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3), with no annex or document number. Before, it referred to Annex 7 to R.E.3 (document TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.1 as last amended by Amend. 4). The scope text now reads “designed primarily for” in place of “designed primarly for”. Paragraph 1.1. now reads “The equipment for vintage cars” in place of “The equipment of vintage cars”. The footnote on the meaning of “tyres” now writes “Regulation” with a capital “R”.
Maximum overall width of “A” or “U” tyres (para. 6.1.4.2.4.)
Paragraph 6.1.4.2.4. covers tyres with the “tyre to rim fitment configuration” symbol “A” or “U”. It now says “the maximum overall width of the tyre” in place of “the overall width of the tyre”. It now begins “Notwithstanding the above” in place of “However”. The value does not change: the nominal width of the mounted rim, as shown in the descriptive note, increased by 20 mm.
Measurement of the overall width (Annex 6, para. 4.)
Paragraph 4. of Annex 6 no longer says that the overall width is measured “by calliper”. The rest of the text does not change. The overall width is measured at six equally-spaced points, and the thickness of the protective ribs or bands is taken into account. The highest measurement is taken as the overall width.

- GRBP, 79th session (February 2024)
Reasons
The proposal gives the full scope text (paragraph 1.) again. This includes a footnote that was left out by mistake in Supplement 18. The text is aligned with the valid text of UN Regulation No. 30 as adopted earlier.
Sources (2)
“The entire paragraph 1. (Scope) is properly recapped, including footnote (2) (renumbered from **) inadvertently omitted in Supplement 18.”
“This text is strictly aligned with the valid text of UN Regulation No. 30 that was adopted as follows”
Footnote 1 now gives a generic reference to R.E.3, for its up-to-date version. At the time of the proposal, this was ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.7.

“A generic reference to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3) for its up-to-date version (presently ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.7) is given in footnote (1).”
The wording of paragraph 6.1.4.2.4. is aligned with UN Regulation No. 54, as GRBP adopted it at its seventy-eighth session (September 2023).

“The wording in paragraph 6.1.4.2.4. is aligned with UN Regulation No. 54 as recently adopted by GRBP at its seventy-eighth session (September 2023).”
The words “by calliper” fix a technical limitation. The proposal removes them to explicitly allow other technical measurement solutions for the tyre overall width. This follows the principle of not stopping technical innovations. The same amendment proposal was recently adopted in UN Regulations Nos. 54, 75 and 106.

“It is proposed to explicitly allow other technical measurement solutions for the tyre overall width by removing the words “by calliper” which fix a technical limitation.”
“The removal of this technical limitation is advisable following the principle of not stopping the technical innovations.”
“This is in line with same amendment proposal recently adopted in UN Regulations No. 54, 75 and 106.”
