UN R150 Supplement 4 (00 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 150 (ECE R150) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of retro-reflective devices and markings for power-driven vehicles and their trailers.
UN R150 — Supplement 4 to the 00 series of amendments
Supplement 3 → 4
- What changed
- Paragraph 5.5.2.1. now says that, in the case of stripes, at least a length of 3 meters must be provided.
- Item 9 of Annex 1 is now “Concise description:” with five new lines, and new item 12 is “Position of the approval mark:”.
- In Annex 6, the test procedure for flexible materials (paragraph 2.) now lists Classes D and E. The procedure for moulded plastics reflectors (paragraph 1.) no longer lists Marking plates of Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- Why
- The aim is to re-align the requirements of UN Regulation No. 150 with those of frozen UN Regulations No. 3, 27, 69, 70 and 104.
- The proposal says that UN Regulation No. 104 defines the stripes test procedure and that UN Regulation No. 3 requires the concise description.
- The proposal also says that UN Regulation No. 70, Annex 9 does not specify the test procedure of paragraph 1 of UN Regulation No. 150.
Q1What changed16 changes
Test samples of stripes of marking material (para. 5.5.2.1.)
Paragraph 5.5.2.1. now says that, in the case of stripes, at least a length of 3 meters must be provided. In the case of planes, at least a surface of 500 mm x 500 mm must be provided, as before.
Concise description in item 9 of Annex 1
Item 9 of Annex 1 now reads “Concise description:” instead of “Remarks:”. Five new lines follow, for example “Colour of light emitted: white/red/amber:” and “Geometric conditions of installation and relating variations, if any:”. One new line asks “yes/no” for installation as an integral part of a lamp, which is integrated into the body of a vehicle. Another asks “yes/no” for “Only for limited mounting height of equal to or less than 750 mm above the ground”.
New item 12 and renumbered items 13 to 16 (Annex 1)
Annex 1 has a new item 12 “Position of the approval mark:”. Items 12 and 13 are renumbered to 13 and 14, item 14 to 15, and item 15 to 16. The line “Name:” is deleted.
Classes in the two test procedures of Annex 6 (paras. 1. and 2.)
The test procedure in paragraph 1. of Annex 6, for moulded plastics reflectors, no longer lists Marking plates of Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The test procedure in paragraph 2. is for the use of flexible materials. It now lists Classes C, D, E, F, Marking plates of Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Advance warning triangle of type 2. Before this supplement, paragraph 2. listed Classes C, F, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and did not list Classes D and E.

- GRE Informal Working Group on Simplification of Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations (IWG SLR)
- Working party
- GRE, 84th session (April 2021)
Reasons
The expert of IWG SLR introduced the proposal. Its aim is to re-align the requirements of UN Regulation No. 150 with those of frozen UN Regulations No. 3, 27, 69, 70 and 104.

“The expert of IWG SLR introduced a proposal with the aim to re-align the requirements of the UN Regulation No. 150 with those of the frozen UN Regulations No. 3, 27, 69, 70 and 104”
Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-84-04)
For paragraph 5.5.2.1., the proposal says that UN Regulation No. 104 defines the test procedure for marking materials in the case of stripes. It also says that this procedure must be added.

“Paragraph 5.5.2.1.: The test procedure for marking materials in case of stripes is defined in UN Regulation No. 104 and shall be added.”
Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-84-04)
For Annex 1, the proposal says that UN Regulation No. 3 requires the concise description of the retroreflector, so it must be added. As a result, the later points of the list had to be renumbered.
Submitted by GRE-IWG SLR. Working party adoption: ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/84, para. 12.

“Annex 1 “Communication”: in UN Regulation No. 3 the concise description of the retroreflector is required and shall be added. Consequently, the subsequent points of the list had to be renumbered.”
Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-84-04)
The proposal says that, for Classes 1 to 5, UN Regulation No. 150 applies two test procedures (paragraph 1 and 2). UN Regulation No. 70, Annex 9 does not specify the test procedure of paragraph 1. For this reason, the proposal says it is wrong to apply Classes 1 to 5 to paragraph 1.
Submitted by GRE-IWG SLR. Working party adoption: ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/84, para. 12.
Sources (2)
“For Classes 1 to 5, two test procedures (paragraph 1 and 2) are applied in UN Regulation No. 150.”
“On the other hand, UN Regulation No. 70, Annex 9 does not specify the test procedure of paragraph 1 of R150. Therefore, it is wrong to apply Classes 1 to 5 to paragraph 1.”
Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-84-04)
The proposal says that the heat test has not been applied to Classes D and E. Annex 8 to UN Regulation No. 104 does not exclude Classes D and E, so the proposal says they should also be included.
Submitted by GRE-IWG SLR. Working party adoption: ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/84, para. 12.
