UN R150 — Supplement 2 to the 01 series of amendments

Supplement 1 → 2

Adopted at the WP.29 192nd sessionEntry into force 2024-09-22
What changed
  • In Table 6, the Class SMV minimum values are now in the columns for the entrance angles 5°, 20°, 30° and 40°.
  • In the weathering test of Annex 6, Part 6, the exposure period is 500 hours for retro-reflective devices and 100 hours for fluorescent materials.
  • In Annex 1, item 9 now reads “Concise description:” and has five new lines.
Why
  • The proposal aims to clarify and correct the text of the 00 and 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 150.
  • When tables were merged in the 01 series, the values for slow-moving vehicle (SMV) plates went into wrong columns by mistake.
  • The drafting of the 01 series left out the requirements for fluorescent material and the reference to the advance warning triangle by mistake.

Class SMV values in the entrance angle columns of Table 6

In Table 6, the minimum values of the coefficient of retro-reflection RA for Class SMV are now in other entrance angle columns. The values are now in the columns for the entrance angles 5°, 20°, 30° and 40°. Before, they were in the columns for 5°, 30°, 40° and 60°.

Concise description in item 9 of Annex 1

In Annex 1, item 9 now reads “Concise description:” instead of “Remarks:”. Five new lines follow item 9. They include “In isolation/part of an assembly of devices” and “Colour of light emitted: white/red/amber”. They also include “Installation as an integral part of a lamp, which is integrated into the body of a vehicle: yes/no”. Another line reads “Geometric conditions of installation and relating variations, if any”. The last line reads “Only for limited mounting height of equal to or less than 750 mm above the ground: yes/no”.

Figure A5-VII for the slow-moving vehicle plate (Annex 5, para. 7.3.)

Paragraph 7.3. of Annex 5 now refers to the example of Figure A5-VII instead of Figure A5-VI. Figure A5-VII is the example of a slow-moving vehicle plate. The amended figure shows the value “r = 5 – 18 mm”. Before, the figure showed “r = 15 – 18 mm”.

The length of the base of the enclosed fluorescent triangle (class 1) or retro-reflective triangle (class 2) shall be: minimum 350 mm and maximum 365 mm. The minimum width of the light-emitting surface of the red retro-reflective border shall be 45 mm, the maximum width 48 mm. These features are illustrated in the example given in of Figure A5-VIA5-VII.

Advance warning triangles in Part 1 - Resistance to heat (Annex 6, paras. 1. and 2.)

Paragraph 1. covers moulded plastics reflectors of retro-reflecting devices as Classes IA, IB, IIIA, IIIB, IVA, SMV. Its text now adds “and advance warning triangle of type 1”. Paragraph 2. covers the use of flexible materials for Classes C, D, E, F and marking plates of Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Its text now adds “and advance warning triangle of type 2”.

Exposure periods in Part 6 - Resistance to weathering (Annex 6, para. 3.)

Paragraph 3. now gives two exposure periods. In case of retro-reflective devices, the period is 500 hours (para. 3.1.). In case of fluorescent materials, the period is 100 hours (para. 3.2.). Before, paragraph 3. gave one period of 500 hours for the samples. The exposure is in accordance with EN ISO 4892-2:2013 with the parameters given in Table A6-1, as before.

The samples shall be exposed in accordance with EN ISO 4892-2:2013 using the parameters given in Table A6-1, for a period of 500 hours.:

Q2Why it changed

Proposed by
Informal Working Group on Simplification of Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations (IWG SLR)
Working party
GRE, 89th session (October 2023)

Reasons

  • For slow-moving vehicle (SMV) plates, the values went into wrong columns by mistake when separate tables were merged in the 01 series. The amendment moves them to the correct columns, as in the original series.

    Sources (2)
“When merging separate tables with the requirements for specific coefficients of retro-reflection for the different retro-reflective devices in the 01 series of UN Regulation No. 150, the values were unintentionally inserted in wrong columns, i.e. 5°, 30°, 40° and 60°.”
“The values have now been shifted to the correct columns, as in the original series.”
  • The original series requires the concise description of the retro-reflector, and the 01 series must have it as well. The proposal intends to put it back.

    Source
“In the original series of amendment to UN Regulation No. 150 the “concise description” of the retroreflector is required and it shall be the same in the 01 series as well. This proposal intends to reintroduce it.”
  • In Annex 5, paragraph 7.3., a wrong figure reference number is corrected. In the figure, the value “r = 5 – 18 mm” became “r = 15 – 18 mm” by mistake during the simplification process.

    Sources (2)
“6. A wrong figure reference number is corrected.”
“7. During the simplification process, the value “r = 5 – 18 mm” (as in the 02 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 69, Annex 12), inadvertently became “r = 15 – 18 mm”.”
  • The reference to the advance warning triangle in paragraphs 1. and 2. was left out by mistake during the drafting of the 01 series. The amendment intends to put it back as appropriate.

    Source
“The reference to the “Advance warning triangle” in paragraphs 1. and 2. was unintentionally omitted during the drafting of the 01 series of amendments. The proposed amendment intends to reinsert it as appropriate.”
  • The requirements for fluorescent material were left out by mistake during the drafting of the 01 series. The amendment intends to make clear which requirements apply to fluorescent material and which to retro-reflective devices.
