Base text → Supplement 1

Adopted at the WP.29 181st sessionEntry into force 2021-01-03
What changed
  • Paragraph 11.1. adds the words “which affects its technical performance and/or documentation as required in this Regulation” to the modifications that must be notified to the Type Approval Authority.
  • Point 3.3. of Annex 1A now reads “Safety-belt reminders (indicate yes/no);” instead of “Driver's safety-belt reminder (indicate yes/no)”.
Why
  • The aim is to align the 08 series of amendments with the previous ones and to prevent misinterpretation.
  • GRSP adopted the same text at its sixty-fifth session, but it did not discuss then whether the 08 series of amendments should also have it.

Q1What changed2 changes

Modifications to notify to the Type Approval Authority (para. 11.1.)

Paragraph 11.1. now covers every modification of the vehicle type or the belt or restraint system or both “which affects its technical performance and/or documentation as required in this Regulation”. Such a modification must be notified to the Type Approval Authority which approved the vehicle type or safety-belt or restraint system type. Before this supplement, the paragraph covered every modification of the vehicle type or the belt or restraint system or both, without this condition. The next sentence now says “The Authority” instead of “The Type Approval Authority”.

Every modification of the vehicle type or the belt or restraint system or both which affects its technical performance and/or documentation as required in this Regulation shall be notified to the Type Approval Authority which approved the vehicle type or safety-belt or restraint system type. The Type Approval Authority may then either:

Safety-belt reminders in Annex 1A (point 3.3.)

Point 3.3. of Annex 1A now reads “Safety-belt reminders (indicate yes/no);”. Before this supplement, it read “Driver's safety-belt reminder (indicate yes/no)”.

Reasons

  • The aim is to align the 08 series of amendments with the previous ones and to prevent misinterpretation.

“To prevent misinterpretation, the same text shall be possibly discussed and adopted by GRSP to align the 08 series of amendments to the previous ones.”
“to align the 08 series of amendments to the previous ones adopted by GRSP at its May 2019 session”
  • GRSP adopted the same text at its sixty-fifth session. Because of time constraints at that session, it did not discuss whether the same provisions should also go into the 08 series of amendments.
