Q1What changed42 changes
EDR memory buffer for at least three events
The EDR non-volatile memory buffer must now accommodate the data related to at least three different events. Before, it had to accommodate the data related to at least two different events.
New data elements (Annex 4, Table 1)
Annex 4, Table 1 has new data elements, for example pre-crash longitudinal and lateral acceleration, yaw rate and AEBS status. Other new rows give the status of the cruise control system, adaptive cruise control, traction control and the lane departure warning system. Further new rows give the status of CSF, ESF, ACSF categories A, B1, B2, C, D and E, and the accident emergency call system. New rows also cover rear passenger and mid-position front safety belt status, TPMS warning lamp status and far side impact center airbag. Two new rows cover the VRU secondary safety system: time to deploy and warning indicator status. The new vehicle roll rate row has the condition “Mandatory if fitted and used for rollover protection system control algorithm”.
Transitional provisions (paras. 11. to 11.6.)
From the 01 series’ official date of entry into force, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must not refuse to grant or accept 01 series approvals. As from 1 July 2024, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation need not accept type approvals to the original version first issued after 1 July 2024. Until 1 July 2026, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must accept type approvals to the original version first issued before 1 July 2024. As from 1 July 2026, Contracting Parties applying this Regulation need not accept type approvals issued to the original version. Despite paragraph 11.4., Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must continue to accept original-version approvals for vehicles not affected by the changes of the 01 series. Contracting Parties applying this Regulation must not refuse to grant type approvals according to any preceding series of amendments or extensions thereof.
Approval mark example (Annex 3)
In the Annex 3 approval mark example, the first two digits of the approval number (01) now indicate approval to the 01 series of amendments. Before, the example said that the first two digits indicate approval to UN Regulation No. 160 in its original form.
Wording and punctuation changes
Paragraph 2.15. now reads “the number (count) of power mode cycles” instead of “the number (count) power mode cycles”. Paragraphs 2.20., 5.2.2.1., 5.2.2.2., 5.4.2. and 5.5. have punctuation changes. The notes on side air bags and side curtain/tube air bags now start “Note -” instead of “Note:”. The footnote on the online platform (“/343 Application”) now gives the address https://www.unece.org/trans/main/wp29/datasharing.html instead of https://apps.unece.org/WP29_application/.
