Q1What changed8 changes
Test site surface to ISO 10844:2021 (Annex 3, para. 1.2.1.)
The road surface covering of the test site must conform to ISO10844:2021. Before this supplement, it had to conform to ISO10844:2014.
Transitional provision on ISO 10844:2021 and ISO 10844:2014 (para. 12.11.)
New paragraph 12.11. says that ISO 10844:2021 must be accepted for all approvals granted under this Regulation from the entry into force of Supplement 11. Until five years from the entry into force of Supplement 11, ISO 10844:2014 must also be accepted for all approvals granted under this Regulation.
Sentence on ISO10844:2014 removed (paras. 12.3. and 12.4.)
Supplement 11 removes the last sentence of paragraphs 12.3. and 12.4. This sentence said that the specification of the test track may conform to ISO10844:2014. The rest of the two paragraphs does not change. A footnote with a note by the secretariat on a WP.29 decision of November 2020 is also deleted.
New date reference in Annex 6, footnote a, and Annex 7, para. 2.6.
Footnote a of Annex 6 and paragraph 2.6. of Annex 7 now refer to the date in paragraph 12.8. instead of 12.7. Footnote a increases the limit value by 1 dB(A) for motorcycles tested in second gear only in Annex 3, until the date in paragraph 12.8. In paragraph 2.6. of Annex 7, the maximum noise level limits apply from the date in paragraph 12.8. Footnote a also now says “motorcycles” instead of “motor cycles”.
Q2Why it changed
- Proposed by
- Experts from France, IMMA and ISO
- Working party
- GRBP, 79th session (February 2024)
Reasons
The proposal is for the use of the test track of the latest standard, ISO 10844:2021. ISO updated the ISO 10844 standard to reduce the variability from one test track to another. This variability comes from different interpretations and implementations of the technical requirements.

“considered revised proposals for the use of the latest standard ISO 10844:2021 test track”
“ISO has updated the ISO 10844 standard to reduce track-to-track variability caused by different interpretations and implementations of the technical requirements.”
IMMA saw a possible risk that test tracks would need new certification if ISO 10844:2014 was no longer an option. IMMA said that this would be an administrative burden with no practical benefit.
Source
“without maintaining the current ISO 10844:2014 as an option, IMMA sees a potential risk of tracks to need re-certification, thus creating an administrative burden with no practical benefit.”
Supplement 9 to the 04 series of amendments added a new paragraph 12.4., and the former paragraphs 12.4. to 12.9. had new numbers. Because of this, the reference to paragraph 12.7. in Annex 6, footnote a, and in Annex 7, paragraph 2.6. was no longer correct. It should be replaced by a reference to paragraph 12.8.
Sources (2)
“Supplement 9 to the 04 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 41 introduced a new paragraph 12.4, with the need to renumber (former) paragraphs 12.4. to 12.9.”
“Due to this renumbering, the reference to paragraph 12.7. in Annex 6, footnote a, and in Annex 7, paragraph 2.6. is no longer correct and should be replaced by a reference to paragraph 12.8.”
