UN R41 — Supplement 2 to the 05 series of amendments
Supplement 1 → 2
- What changed
- The RD-ASEP table in Annex 1, item 18, has two new rows: approach condition to line AA’ and throttle control position (%).
- The items that follow move from numbers 18.1.2. to 18.1.6. to numbers 18.1.4. to 18.1.8.
- A new footnote says that the columns for the additional operating conditions 1, 2 and 3 “need to be repeated for each gear that needs to be tested”.
- Why
- The proposer says that Annex 1, item 18, had no field for the approach condition and the prescribed throttle control position.
- The proposer also says that item 18 had no fields for the values of the three additional operating conditions per gear.
Q1What changed2 changes
New rows and new item numbers in the RD-ASEP table (Annex 1, item 18.1.)
The RD-ASEP operating conditions table in Annex 1 has two new rows: “Approach condition to line AA’ (acceleration, deceleration or constant speed)” and “Throttle control position (%)”. For Reference Points (i) and (ii), these two rows show “n.a.”. The items that follow have new numbers: 18.1.2. to 18.1.6. are now 18.1.4. to 18.1.8. The table also has the new entries “gear i” and “i= 1 to n (number of gears)”.
New footnote: additional operating conditions for each gear (Annex 1, item 18)
A new footnote under the table says that the columns for the additional operating conditions 1, 2 and 3 “need to be repeated for each gear that needs to be tested”.
Q2Why it changed
- Proposed by
- Experts from the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association
- Working party
- GRBP, 77th session (February 2023)
Reasons
The two new items complete the table in item 18 of Annex 1 and give a complete communication form. They give the places to document all operating conditions of the ASEP test. They do not apply to Reference Points (i) and (ii).
Sources (3)
“Two additional parameters have been inserted to complete the table in item 18 of Annex 1 to the 05 series of UN Regulation No. 41, specifying the test conditions and assuring a complete communication form.”
“These additional items will provide the necessary placeholders to document all operating conditions to conduct the additional sound emission provisions (ASEP) test as specified in the Regulation.”
“It is also clarified that this does not apply to the reference points (i) and (ii).”
Paragraph 3.6. requires the test report to include the approach condition to line AA’ and the prescribed throttle control position. This is for tests according to Annex 7, paragraph 3.3. Annex 1, item 18, had no field for them.

“Paragraph 3.6. of the main text requires the test report (from the Technical Service conducting the type approval test) to include amongst others the approach condition to line AA’ (acceleration, deceleration or constant speed)”
“the prescribed throttle control position (in per cent of the throttle control opening) between lines AA’ and BB’, for tests according to Annex 7, paragraph 3.3.”
“A field to indicate the approach condition and the prescribed throttle control position is not available in Annex 1, Item 18, hence there is a need for this correction.”
Paragraph 6.3.4. requires the RD-ASEP test results in the test report and on a form that conforms to the model in Annex 1.

“Paragraph 6.3.4. of the main text requires the real driving additional sound emission provisions (RD-ASEP) test results to be entered in the test report and on a form conforming to the model in Annex 1 to this Regulation.”
Annex 1, item 18, had no fields for the values of the three additional operating conditions per gear.
Source
“Fields to indicate values of the three additional operating conditions in Annex 1, Item 18, per gear, as per indication of paragraph 3.1. of Annex 7, are not available, hence there is a need for this correction.”
The new footnote makes clear that the entries for each additional operating condition need to be repeated for each gear that needs to be tested.
