Base text → Supplement 1
- What changed
- For new vehicle types, paragraph 6.1. now requires compliance with paragraphs 8.1.8. to 8.1.9. of UN Regulation No. 16 (08 series) from 1 September 2020. This applies to a vehicle fitted with airbag assemblies intended to protect the driver and occupants other than the driver.
- The former airbag information and warning label requirements in paragraphs 6.1., 6.1.1. and 6.2. to 6.2.3. are deleted.

- Why
- For simplification, it was requested to include the relevant provisions only in Regulation No. 16 and to delete them from Regulations Nos. 94 and 137.
- The expert from OICA suggested regrouping these kinds of airbag warning label requirements in UN Regulation No. 16 only.
Q1What changed16 changes
Compliance with UN Regulation No. 16 for airbag assemblies (para. 6.1.)
Former paragraph 6.1.2. becomes paragraph 6.1. It now covers a vehicle fitted with airbag assemblies intended to protect the driver and occupants other than the driver. For new vehicle types, compliance with paragraphs 8.1.8. to 8.1.9. of UN Regulation No. 16 (08 series) must be demonstrated from 1 September 2020. Before this date, the relevant requirements of the preceding series of amendments apply. The old text covered a vehicle fitted with a passenger airbag intended to protect occupants other than the driver. For that vehicle, the required information consisted of the warning label described in paragraph 6.2.
Deleted airbag information and warning label requirements (paras. 6.1., 6.1.1. and 6.2. to 6.2.3.)
Former paragraphs 6.1., 6.1.1. and 6.2. to 6.2.3. are deleted. Paragraph 6.1. required the vehicle to carry information to the effect that it is equipped with airbags for seats. For a vehicle fitted with an airbag assembly intended to protect the driver, this information was the inscription “AIRBAG” inside the steering wheel circumference. Paragraph 6.2. covered a vehicle fitted with one or more passenger frontal protection airbags. Such a vehicle had to carry information about the extreme hazard associated with the use of rearward-facing child restraints on seats equipped with airbag assemblies. Paragraphs 6.2.1. to 6.2.3. gave the requirements for the warning label, its position in the vehicle and the detailed information in the owner's manual.
Conformity of production procedures (para. 8)
Paragraph 8 now refers to the Agreement, Schedule 1 (E/ECE/TRANS/505/Rev.3), for the conformity of production procedures. Before, it referred to the Agreement, Appendix 2 (E/ECE/324-E/ECE/TRANS/505/Rev.2).
