UN R94 Supplement 2 (04 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 94 (ECE R94) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to the protection of the occupants, fuel system integrity and protection against electrical shock in the event of a frontal collision.

UN R94 — Supplement 2 to the 04 series of amendments

Supplement 1 → 2

Adopted at the WP.29 190th sessionEntry into force 2024-01-05
What changed
  • New paragraph 7.1.2.1. says when a change to the vehicle structure or mass requires a repeat of the Annex 3 test.
  • New paragraph 7.1.2.2. covers changes to interior fittings only, with the same number of front seats and no mass increase above 8 per cent. For these changes, a simplified test as provided for in Annex 7 and/or a partial test must be carried out.
Why
  • The 04 series of amendments deleted a text that allows tolerances on the vehicle mass and simplified testing.
  • The proposal would allow GRSP to decide whether the deletion was intended.

Q1What changed4 changes

Repeat of the Annex 3 test after a structure or mass change (para. 7.1.2.1.)

New paragraph 7.1.2.1. requires a repetition of the test as described in Annex 3 for “Any modification of the vehicle affecting the general form of the structure of the vehicle and/or any increase in mass greater than 8 per cent which in the judgement of the authority would have a marked influence on the results of the tests”. Paragraph 7.1.2.1. was not in the 04 series before this supplement.

Any modification of the vehicle affecting the general form of the structure of the vehicle and/or any increase in mass greater than 8 per cent which in the judgement of the authority would have a marked influence on the results of the tests shall require a repetition of the test as described in Annex 3;

Simplified and/or partial test for interior fitting changes (paras. 7.1.2.2. to 7.1.2.2.2.)

New paragraph 7.1.2.2. applies when the modifications concern only the interior fittings. Two more conditions apply: the mass does not increase by more than 8 per cent, and the number of front seats stays the same. In that case, a simplified test as provided for in Annex 7 and/or a partial test must be carried out. The Technical Service defines the partial test in relation to the modifications made. These paragraphs were not in the 04 series before this supplement.

If the modifications concern only the interior fittings, if the mass does not increase by more than 8 per cent and if the number of front seats initially provided in the vehicle remains the same, the following shall be carried out:
A simplified test as provided for in Annex 7; and/or
