UN R129 Supplement 7 (03 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 129 (ECE R129) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of Enhanced Child Restraint Systems used on board of motor vehicles (ECRS).
UN R129 — Supplement 7 to the 03 series of amendments
Supplement 6 → 7
- What changed
- Paragraph 6.6.4.5.1. now says that side protection must be positioned "at the same horizontal level and longitudinal position as that of the dummy’s head centre of gravity, between the vertical longitudinal planes of the head and the door panel" at the start of the lateral impact test.
- Before, side protection "shall always be positioned at the level at the dummy's head centre of gravity perpendicular to the direction of the door intrusion" during the loading phase, up to 80 ms.
- Criterion (b) now says "No part of the head shall pass beyond the vertical longitudinal plane identified by a red line on top of the door panel (top view camera)" and calls this plane the "head containment plane"; for tests with a Q10 dummy, it is for monitoring purpose only.
- Why
- The proposal's aim is to clarify the head containment assessment for side impact testing.
- GRSP adopted the proposal as amended by GRSP-70-05, which is also meant to make sure "there is a side impact protection provided at the head cg level".
Q1What changed3 changes
Side protection position at the start of the lateral impact test (para. 6.6.4.5.1.)
A new sentence says that, at the start of the lateral impact test, side protection must be positioned "at the same horizontal level and longitudinal position as that of the dummy’s head centre of gravity, between the vertical longitudinal planes of the head and the door panel". Before, the paragraph said that, during the loading phase of lateral impact testing, up to 80 ms, side protection "shall always be positioned at the level at the dummy's head centre of gravity perpendicular to the direction of the door intrusion". The sentence on the loading phase, up to 80 ms, now says that head containment "shall be assessed by the following criteria". Before, it said that head containment "will be assessed" by these criteria.
Head containment plane in criterion (b)
Criterion (b) now says "No part of the head shall pass beyond the vertical longitudinal plane identified by a red line on top of the door panel (top view camera)". Before, it said "Head shall not exceed a vertical plane identified by a red line on top of the door (top view camera)". The plane is still defined in Annex 6, Appendix 3, Figure 1, and the text now calls it the "head containment plane". The words "identified by a line on the impacted door as" are deleted, and "criteria" becomes "criterion". This criterion is still for monitoring purpose only for tests with a Q10 dummy.
