Q1What changed23 changes

Failure signal for a failed light source or LED module (para. 4.13.)

If applicable, the lamp must now be so made that a failure signal is provided if a light source and/or a LED module has failed. The failure signal is to comply with the relevant provisions of UN Regulation No. 48. Before, paragraph 4.13. did not name the failure of a light source and/or a LED module.

If applicable, the lamp shall be so made that , if a light source and/or a LED module has failed, a failure signal in order to comply with the relevant provisions of UN Regulation No. 48 is provided.

Element names in Table 8, Part A

In Table 8, Part A, the element “Segment I C to D” is now called “C-D”. The elements “Emax R” and “Emax L” are now called “Imax R” and “Imax L”.

Segment I C to D C-D Emax Imax R Emax Imax L

Values in Table 9, Part B (bending mode)

In Table 9, Part B (bending mode), some cell values change, and the new values are 530 and 790. In the other changed cells, only the number format changes (for example, “1 700” becomes “1,700”).

Test points for an AFS in Annex 7, paragraphs 1.(d) and 2.1.2.2.1.(b)

In the case of an AFS, Annex 7, paragraph 1.(d) now gives the passing-beam points 25LL, 50V and B 50 L. For AFS designed for left-hand traffic, it gives 25RR, 50V and B 50 R. Before, it gave the points 25L, 50V, B 50 L (or R), whichever applies. Paragraph 2.1.2.2.1.(b) covers the passing-beam for AFS system: the Class C passing beam and each specified other passing beam class. Paragraph 2.1.2.2.1.(b) now gives 25LL instead of 25RR, if applicable.

at the point for Imax for driving-beam and in points 25L25LL, 50V, B 50 L (or 25RR, 50V, B 50 R), whichever applies for AFS designed for left-hand traffic) for passing-beam;
50V, B50L, and 25RR25LL, if applicable

New marking example 4-b (Figure A13-V) and figure numbers in Annex 13

Annex 13 has a new Figure A13-V, “Marking example 4-b”, for an adaptive front-lighting system. For installation unit 3 (left side), a circle surrounding the letter “E” followed by the distinguishing number of the country is not necessary. A note says that, in this example, the different installation units of the system must bear the same approval number. The title “Marking example 4” is now “Marking example 4-a”. “Light source module marking” is now Figure A13-VI instead of A13-V, and “Lighting unit marking” is now Figure A13-VII instead of A13-VI. In Annex 13, “a = see para. 3.2.4.3. of this Regulation” now reads “a = see para. 3.3.1.2.1. of this Regulation”.

Q2Why it changed

Proposed by
Informal Working Group on Simplification of Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations
Working party
GRE, 83rd session (October 2020)

Reasons

  • The proposal says that renaming the element “Segment I C to D” in Table 8 is an alignment with UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123. The same applies to amending the luminous intensity requirements in Table 9, Part B and to correcting Annex 7, paragraph 2.1.2.2.1.(a).

    Sources (2)
“The proposals to rename the element “Segment I C to D” in Table 8, to amend the luminous intensity requirements in Table 9, Part B”
“to correct Annex 7, paragraph 2.1.2.2.1. (a), are alignments with UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123.”
  • Renaming “Emax R/L” in Table 8 and changing Annex 7, paragraph 1. d) correct mistakes from the frozen UN Regulations Nos. 98 and 123. These mistakes had been copied into UN Regulation No. 149. For this reason, IWG SLR prepared a parallel proposal to correct UN Regulations Nos. 98 and 123.

    Sources (3)
“The proposal to rename “Emax R/L” in Table 8 as well as to change Annex 7, paragraph 1. d) is a correction of mistakes already contained in the frozen UN Regulations Nos. 98 and 123”
“that had been copied into the current UN Regulation No. 149.”
“For this reason, a parallel proposal to correct UN Regulations Nos. 98 and 123 has been prepared by IWG SLR”
  • Annex 13 has been editorially improved without changing its contents. The additional marking example 4-b (Figure A13-V) was inserted to clarify the required markings for an additional lighting unit of an adaptive front-lighting system. It was copied from example 8 (Figure 13) of UN Regulation No. 123.

“An additional marking example 4-b (Figure A13-V) has been inserted to clarify the required markings for an additional lighting unit of an adaptive front-lighting system.”
“This additional example was copied from example 8 (Figure 13) of UN Regulation No. 123.”
  • Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-83-37)

The text added in paragraph 4.13. is to correctly reflect the existing text of UN Regulation No. 123 concerning adaptive front-lighting systems (AFS). The proposer says that paragraph 4.13. was missing a specific requirement of paragraph 5.9 in UN Regulation No. 123. That requirement is for detection of failure of a light source and/or a LED module of AFS.

Submitted by Experts from OICA. Working party adoption: ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/83, para. 11.

“specific requirement of paragraph 5.9 in UN Regulation No. 123 for detection of failure of a light source and/or a LED module of AFS is missing.”
    GRE-83-37II. Justification, para. 1
  • Proposer's reason (informal document GRE-83-07)

The proposal says the description of zone 1 in Figure A4-IX was not in line with the photometric requirements in Table 34 of paragraph 5.4.4.2. That table defines the horizontal angles to 5° to the left and 5° to the right for the class BS headlamps.

Submitted by GRE-IWG SLR. Working party adoption: ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/83, para. 10.
