UN R149 — Supplement 8 to the 00 series of amendments
Supplement 7 → 8
- What changed
- Paragraph 3.2.2. on approval numbers now exempts an extension of the approval to a front fog lamp differing only in light colour.
- Why
- The proposal says the exemption for front fog lamps was overlooked in the new UN Regulation No. 149 during the simplification of the lighting regulations.
- To take account of a GRE decision, it was proposed to reinsert this exemption provision for front fog lamps in paragraph 3.2.2.
Q1What changed1 change
Approval numbers: exception for an approval extension to a front fog lamp differing only in light colour (para. 3.2.2.)
Under paragraph 3.2.2., the same Contracting Party must not assign the same number to another type of device covered by this Regulation. There is now one exception: an extension of the approval to a front fog lamp differing only in the colour of the light emitted. Before, the paragraph gave no exception.
Q2Why it changed
- Proposed by
- Informal Working Group on Simplification of Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations (IWG SLR)
- Working party
- GRE, 89th session (October 2023)
Reasons
The proposal says during the simplification of the lighting regulations, the exemption in paragraph 3.2.2. was overlooked in the new UN Regulation No. 149. It says this was possibly because the provision is just related to front fog lamps.

The proposal refers to a GRE decision on the 00 series of amendments to the new UN Regulations Nos. 148, 149 and 150. Under it, they must reflect the provisions of the old “frozen” lighting and light-signalling regulations in their latest status. To take account of this decision, it was proposed to reinsert this exemption provision for front fog lamps in paragraph 3.2.2.
