Supplement 8 → 9

Adopted at the WP.29 195th sessionEntry into force 2025-09-26
What changed
  • For classes A, B and D and AFS, item (a) of Annex 8, paragraph 3.7.1.2.1., no longer names point HV.
Why
  • The GTB proposal intends to align the measurement points for the mechanical deterioration test with UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123.

Q1What changed1 change

Point HV deleted from item (a) of Annex 8, paragraph 3.7.1.2.1.

In Annex 8, paragraph 3.7.1.2.1., item (a) no longer names point HV. The remaining points in item (a) are B50L for the maximum values and 75R for the minimum values. For headlamps intended for left-hand traffic, the points are B50R and 75L. Before, item (a) named points B 50 L and HV for the maximum values. For headlamps intended for left-hand traffic, it named points B 50 R, HV and 75 L. Item (b), for a headlamp producing driving beam only, uses the minimum values prescribed for HV.

By more than 30 per cent the maximum values prescribed at points B 50 L and HV point B50L and by more than 10 per cent below the minimum values prescribed at point 75 R 75R (in the case of headlamps intended for left-hand traffic, the points to be considered are B 50 R, HV B50R and 75 L75L)

Q2Why it changed

Proposed by
Expert from the International Automotive Lighting and Light-Signalling Expert Group (GTB)
Working party
GRE, 91st session (October 2024)

Reasons

  • The photometric measurement in point HV for passing-beam headlamps was deleted from UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123 at the seventy-sixth session of GRE. During the preparation of UN Regulation No. 149, this amendment might have been inadvertently overlooked, so point HV for passing-beam headlamps remained in Annex 8.

“The photometric measurement in point HV for the passing-beam headlamps was deleted from UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123 at the seventy-sixth session of the Working Party on Lighting and Light-Signalling (GRE)”
“During the preparation of UN Regulation No. 149 this amendment might have been inadvertently overlooked, then measuring point HV for passing-beam headlamps remained in the Annex 8.”
  • The proposal intends to remove the inconsistency between UN Regulation No. 149 and the frozen UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123. It intends to do this by aligning the measurement points for the mechanical deterioration test.

“This proposal intends to rectify the inconsistency between UN Regulation No. 149, (both original version and 01 series of amendments) and the frozen UN Regulations”
“(namely UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123) by aligning the measurement points for the mechanical deterioration test.”
  • Deleting point HV for passing-beam headlamps does not change any technical requirement, because UN Regulation No. 149 specifies no photometric values for point HV.
