Why
  • IMMA aims to expand the application of glare-free ADB in the field of motorcycles.

Adaptive driving beam for vehicles of category L3 (para. 5.3.3.2. and Table 13)

For ADB for vehicles of category L3, the luminous intensity must meet Class A, B, CS or DS in Table 5 and paragraph 5.1.4.2. Table 13 has a new Part C with minimum intensities for Class CS and Class DS at Segment 123, P2 and Segment 5. For ADB for vehicles of category L3, each line of Part A is measured with the test points of Part B or Part C. When the passing-beam that meets paragraph 5.4.3.3. is operated continuously with the adaptation, Part C (before: Part B) is not applied. New note c says that the photometric requirements apply according to the class of the passing-beam used.

For ADB for vehicles of category L3, the luminous intensity shall meet the requirements of Class A, B, CS or DS in Table 5 and of paragraph 5.1.4.2.

Failure signal option (b) in paragraph 4.13.1.

Option (b) now uses the required minimum CoP limits, as detailed in Column B of the relevant CoP Table. Before, option (b) used 80% of the minimum luminous intensity value required for the type approval.

As a consequence of one or more element(s) for visible radiation stops emitting light, the resulting luminous intensity value in any of the photometric requirements is less than 80% the required minimum CoP limits (as detailed in Column B of the minimum luminous intensity value required for the type approval;relevant CoP Table);

Driving-beam conditions (paras. 6.2.1.1. and 6.2.1.1.1.2.1.)

Paragraph 6.2.1.1. adds a condition for driving-beams of class A, B or RA. The added condition is that HV is situated within the isocandela 0.75 Imax. Paragraph 6.2.1.1.1.2.1. is deleted; it set a tolerance of +20 per cent for maximum values and -20 per cent for minimum values for the driving-beam.

If not otherwise specified, no measured value deviates unfavorably unfavourably by more than 20 per cent from the value prescribed in this Regulation and, for driving-beams of class A, B or RA, if HV is situated within the isocandela 0.75 Imax.
and if, for the driving-beam, HV being situated within the isocandela 0.75 Imax a tolerance of + 20 per cent for maximum values and -20 per cent for minimum values is observed for the photometric values at any measuring point specified in paragraph 5.1. of this Regulation

New CoP values in Tables 28, 29 and 35

In Tables 28 and 29, the maximum values at point BR change to 2.65∙10³, 3.18∙10³ and 3.45∙10³. In Table 35, the minimum values change to 1.04∙10³ and 9.10∙10² at 2U-V, and to 2.16∙10³ and 1.89∙10³ at H-9L and H-9R.

Table note references in Annex 4 (para. 1.6.2.1.)

Paragraph 1.6.2.1. of Annex 4 now refers to notes a and f of Table 7 instead of notes 1 and 7.

However, in those cases where a provision is specified for one side only, the division by the factor of 2 does not apply. These cases are: paragraphs 5.3.2.5.2., 5.3.2.8.1., 5.1.4.2., 5.3.3.4., 5.3.5.1. of this Regulation, and notes 1 a and 7 f of Table 7.

Labels for additional approval markings (para. 3.3.4.4.1.)

New paragraph 3.3.4.4.1. allows labels for the additional approval markings specific to the device. The labels must be durable for the useful life of the device and clearly legible, and their letters and figures must be indelible. Their fixing must be durable for the useful life of the device, and they must not be removable without destroying or defacing them.

For the additional approval markings specific to the device, labels may be used. Such labels shall be durable for the useful life of the device. Labels shall be clearly legible and their letters and figures shall be indelible.
Additionally, labels shall be attached in such a manner that their fixing is durable for the useful life of the device, and the labels cannot be removed without destroying or defacing them.

New marking example in Annex 13 (Figure A13-VII)

New Figure A13-VII (Marking example 7) shows the marking of a part intended to be used in different types of headlamps. Former Figures A13-VII and A13-VIII are now Figures A13-VIII and A13-IX, and the text below them refers to the new numbers.

Q2Why it changed

Proposed by
Experts from the International Automotive Lighting and Light-Signalling Expert Group (GTB) and the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA)
Working party
GRE, 94th session (April 2026)

Reasons

  • IMMA's proposal aims to expand the application of glare-free ADB in the field of motorcycles, with additional options for vehicles of category L3. Part C of Table 13 is based on symmetrical Class CS/DS passing beams, the standard configuration for motorcycles.
