UN R13 Supplement 1 (13 series) · UNECE Regulation No. 13 (ECE R13) — Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles of categories M, N and O with regard to braking.
UN R13 — Supplement 1 to the 13 series of amendments
Base text → Supplement 1
- What changed
- Paragraph 5.1.2.4.3.1. now says that the demonstration to the Technical Service includes test (a) of Annex 4, paragraph 1.8.2.5.
- It also adds the submission of detailed documentation on the system strategies and how they make sure endurance braking requirements can always be met.
- Why
- The proposal aimed at clarifying the requirements related to the Type IIA test.
- The proposer did not consider it abundantly clear that the Type IIA test should always be performed in one case at least. That case is a battery state of charge in which the battery is expected to absorb the descent energy.
- The proposal aimed to foster uniform application of the regulation, and GRVA agreed with the clarifications proposed.
Q1What changed1 change
Demonstration to the Technical Service: test and documentation (para. 5.1.2.4.3.1.)
Paragraph 5.1.2.4.3.1. sets conditions under which a vehicle is deemed to comply with paragraphs 5.1.2.4.1. and 5.1.2.4.2. As before, this must be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Technical Service. This supplement adds that the demonstration includes test (a) of Annex 4, paragraph 1.8.2.5. It adds the submission of detailed documentation that explains the system strategies and how they make sure endurance braking requirements can always be met.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland reviewed the adopted provisions. It did not consider it abundantly clear that, at least in one case, the Type IIA test should always be performed. That is the case where the battery is in a state of charge in which it is expected to absorb the energy of the descent.
